Résumé de l’article

There are two basic types of administrators:

Global administrators

Global administrators are not restricted to a domain, and can read and/or write data regardless of the domain to which they belong. Global administrator accounts are created in the master domain, but the administrative privileges assigned to them apply throughout all domains. Global administrators cannot be located in an organizational unit.

Delegated administrators

A delegated administrator is an administrator account that is created in any domain other than master. Their administration privileges only extend to their respective administrative (domain) scopes. Delegated administrators cannot be located in an organizational unit.

The domain scope can be extended via the Administration Web Interface when assigning administrative privileges. This can be done by either global or delegated administrators.

Delegated administrators:

  • Cannot create or delete domains.
  • Cannot edit their own administrative (domain) scope.
  • Can only assign domains within their own administrative scope to another delegated administrator. A global administrator (including the first administrator), on the other hand, can assign any domain to another delegated administrator.
  • Can create and delete organizational units.

Only the administrative scope of delegated administrators can be edited.

To create a global or delegated administrator account in ODBC

  1. Log on to the Administration Web Interface.

  2. Select USERS > Create.
  3. Enter a user ID and a domain for the new administrator account.

    • The new administrator account will be restricted to user and authenticator administration in the specified domain. This creates a delegated administrator account.
    • If you select the master domain (default: master), a global administrator account is created.
  4. Click Create.
  5. Click the Click here to manage link.
  6. Switch to the Admin Privileges page.
  7. Click EDIT.
  8. Assign the necessary administrative privileges by selecting the respective checkboxes.

If you select an administrative privilege that has any prerequisite privileges, the respective privileges it depends on are automatically selected as well.

Likewise, if you remove an administration privilege by clearing its checkbox will also automatically remove any other privileges that depend on it.

  9. If you are creating a delegated administrator, configure the domain scope of the administrator account.

Select the domain items to move them between the list panels in the Domain Scope section. The domains in the right list define the domain scope for the administrator account.

  10. Click SAVE.
