Résumé de l’article

You can use the MDC Configuration Utility to configure an SMPP gateway for SMS delivery. This application allows you to import, export, or manually configure an SMPP gateway. For information about importing or exporting gateway definitions, see Importing/exporting gateway definitions (Message Delivery Component). For more information about configuring HTTP gateways for SMS delivery, see Configuring SMS delivery (HTTP gateways).

To configure an SMPP gateway connection for SMS delivery

  1. Start the MDC Configuration Utility.
  2. Select a delivery method by clicking its corresponding button from the left pane.
  3. Enable that delivery method by selecting the corresponding checkbox, e.g. the Enable SMS delivery checkbox in the SMS/SMPP gateways menu.
  4. Click Add SMPP gateway. Type a display name and click OK.
  5. Type the IP address of the gateway.
  6. Type the port on which the gateway should be listening.
  7. If SSL is required for gateway connections, select SSL enabled. Click Browse and navigate and select the certificate file to be used.

Certification authority (CA) files should be located on the same host as OneSpan Authentication Server. If your CA file is located on a network share, you need to copy the file locally before you browse to it and select it.
  8. If required, configure the gateway's SMPP settings (see SMPP system and timer settings).
  9. Click Apply.

For more information about testing your gateway settings, see Testing gateway configurations.

For more information about configuring proxy settings, see Configuring HTTP proxy servers (for Message Delivery Component).

SMPP system and timer settings

To further configure an SMPP gateway, select the gateway's corresponding gateway definition. The SMPP gateway's settings are configured via the SMPP settings and SMPP timeout tabs.

SMPP settings

SMPP system settings

  • System type. A name to identify the gateway.
  • Message mode. This mode controls how MDC handles messages sent to the gateway. OneSpan Authentication Server supports two types of message modes:

    • Datagram. When sending a message to the gateway, MDC only expects and receives confirmation on whether the gateway receives the message.
    • Transaction. When sending a message to the gateway, MDC expects and receives confirmation on whether the gateway AND intended recipient receive the message.
  • Priority flag. The priority level of messages sent by MDC. A higher number indicates a higher priority.
  • Privacy indicator. The privacy level of sent messages. The drop-down list shows the configurable parameters from the lowest privacy level (Not Restricted) to the highest (Secret).

SMPP source/destination address

The SMPP settings tab contains two sections to configure addresses: one for source addresses, and another for destination addresses. Both sections allow you to configure TON and NPI. The SMPP source address section allows you to configure which source number to display to SMS recipients.

To configure the source number, enter it in the Number box of the SMPP source address section.

TON, NPI, and source number

The source number is the sender number that appears in the message sent by MDC. Some gateway services also require you to identify the type of number (TON) and numbering plan identification (NPI) of the source number.

In the SMPP source address section, the TON and NPI settings tell the gateway how to interpret the supplied source number. For some specific TON and NPI settings for common number formats, see Table: TON and NPI settings for common source number formats. In the SMPP Destination Address section, the TON and NPI tell the gateway how to interpret a supplied recipient mobile number.

Table:  TON and NPI settings for common source number formats
Source number formatType of number (TON)Numbering plan identification (NPI)
Short code (i.e. 5 digits or less)Network SpecificISDN/telephone numbering plan (E163/E164)
Begins with a "+"InternationalISDN/telephone numbering plan (E163/E164)
Alphanumeric/non-numericAlphanumericUnknown

Consult your service provider if there are any required TON or NPI settings for source and recipient numbers.

SMPP timeout settings

The SMPP Timeout Settings tab allows you to configure the following settings:

  • Transaction timeout (sec). If MDC does not receive a reply for a transaction request within this specified time, the transaction is marked as failed.
  • Inactivity timeout (sec). If MDC does not send a transaction or receive a reply within the specified time, the session is dropped.
  • Enquire link timeout (sec). The time lapse in seconds between two operations before MDC sends an enquire_link request to the gateway. This request tests whether the gateway still has an active session.
