Résumé de l’article

Get an overview of the database administrator accounts that are required to create/update, manage databases, and record to these databases. To carry out these tasks, certain database server permissions need to be assigned to these user accounts.

ODBC database account management

When opting for an advanced installation of OneSpan Authentication Server, a database needs to be manually installed and configured before commencing with the installation of OneSpan Authentication Server.

If your organization is impacted by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), note that when selecting the Advanced installation option, you must ensure that the GDPR requirements are met, and that the database and its connections are adequately encrypted!

For more information about GDPR, refer to the OneSpan Authentication Server General Data Protection Regulation Compliance Guide.

The following elements/accounts need to be configured to use an ODBC data store:

Database management system administrator account

This account is needed by OneSpan Authentication Server to access the OneSpan Authentication Server user and audit databases.

You will need the Data Source Name (DSN) of the database (as registered with Windows or Linux as an ODBC Data Source). This DSN must be registered on the computer from which the command line utility will be run.

Database administrator account

To successfully modify the database structure, you will need the user name and password of a database administrator account with the required privileges to make changes to the database structure. You must pass these credentials to the utility in the parameters of the command.

In this case, the Database Administrator Account must have permissions to create tables.

OneSpan Authentication Server master domain name

You can specify the name of the OneSpan Authentication Server Master Domain when you add the database schema. However, if you do not specify it at that time, you can change it later in the Maintenance Wizard.

OneSpan Authentication Server user ID/domain name conversion

You can specify the case conversion option for user IDs and domain names when you add the database schema. However, if you do not specify it at that time, you can change it later in the Maintenance Wizard.

Database user accounts

It is important to consider which database user accounts will be utilized when installing, running, and administering OneSpan Authentication Server. There are a few main roles that need to be considered:

  • Schema creator. A database user account is needed to create the tables used by OneSpan Authentication Server. Typically, this would be either a fully privileged database administrator account, or the account that will own the schema.
  • Schema owner. This may be the same as the schema creator. If not, the schema creator can transfer ownership of the new tables after they have been created.
  • OneSpan Authentication Server account. This may be the same as the schema creator or owner, but you may prefer to use an account with less privileges.
