Each gateway is tied to a specific delivery method and protocol. A gateway definition defines a gateway as having a server type of either:
- Primary
- Backup
The server type of a gateway helps to determine how the Message Delivery Component (MDC) service performs load-balancing, failover, and/or failback. For more information, see MDC gateway load-balancing, failover, and failback.
Multiple gateways may be configured, and optionally grouped by a chosen MDC profile name. These gateway definitions can be managed via the MDC Configuration Utility (see Using the MDC Configuration Utility).
Gateway types (by protocol)
OneSpan Authentication Server supports three types of gateway format. Each of these gateway formats uses a specific connection protocol:
- HTTP/HTTPS (voice, SMS, or Push Notification)
- SMPP 3.4 rev 1.2 (SMS only)
- SMTP/SMTPS (email only)
OneSpan Authentication Server also supports exporting and importing gateway definition settings to and from an XML file.
For more information about configuring HTTP gateways for SMS or voice, see Configuring voice delivery. For more information about configuring HTTP gateways for push notifications, see Configuring push notification delivery. For information about configuring SMPP gateways for SMS, see Configuring SMS delivery (SMPP gateways). For information about configuring email gateways, see Configuring email delivery.
MDC profiles
Gateway definitions can be grouped using MDC profiles. MDC profiles are independent of gateway type or delivery method. MDC will select the highest-ranked, enabled, and available gateway with the specified MDC profile name, and use it for message delivery. If no MDC profile name is specified, then the highest-ranked, enabled, and available gateway for the specified delivery method will be used.
