The Message Delivery Component (MDC) service accepts one-time password (OTP) notifications and other messages from OneSpan Authentication Server. It interfaces with SMS, email, voice, or push notification gateways to relay those messages to a user’s phone or email address. Push notifications can be forwarded via an on-prem DIGIPASS Gateway or OneSpan Notification Gateway.
It is required to support Virtual Mobile Authenticator authentication (see Virtual Mobile Authenticator).
OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance also supports exporting and importing gateway definition settings to and from XML.
Virtual Mobile Authenticator process using MDC
- The user accesses a remote application and requests Virtual Mobile Authenticator logon.
- The remote application server forwards the authentication request.
- OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance verifies whether the user is allowed to use Virtual Mobile Authenticator.
- MDC sends an OTP to the configured SMS or email gateway.
- The gateway server forwards the OTP as a text message to the user's mobile phone or as an email.
- The user enters the received OTP in the remote application.
OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance trace files contain debugging and troubleshooting information. The content can help OneSpan support engineers and experienced customers to troubleshoot specific issues. MDC-specific trace files can be accessed via the OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance Configuration Tool (see Auditing, logging, and tracing).
Since every gateway uses different submission parameters, certain settings are required, which can be configured through the OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance Configuration Tool. For more information, refer to the OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance Administrator Guide.
