The RAID option provides redundancy between two (hot swappable) physical disks, supporting full services even if a disk fails or is being replaced. The two disks are continuously synchronized (also known as RAID mirroring). If one disk fails, all information is still present on the other one.

The two disks are housed in two out of three available slots. The RAID option is configured using a wizard, available via the OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance Configuration Tool whenever an action is required.

The redundancy with the RAID configuration is provided at disk level. Replication at all levels is also possible between two appliances and supports redundancy (see Replication).

RAID maintenance

RAID can be configured via the Configuration Tool that automatically provides a respective option with a status message when an action is required.

The following actions are possible:

  • Insert. A new disk needs to be physically inserted into an available slot in OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance. Note that inserting is not the same as adding the disk to the RAID configuration for synchronization.
  • Add. A new disk already inserted into a slot in OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance will be added by OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance to the RAID configuration for synchronization.
  • Replace. The synchronization of a disk to the RAID configuration will be stopped by OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance. The disk needs to be physically removed from the respective slot in OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance and a new disk needs to be physically inserted. Afterward, the wizard will offer to add the new disk to the RAID configuration for synchronization.
  • Re-add. This option is only offered for a disk that is physically present and recognized as having been previously synced, but which is not currently added for synchronization and therefore considered as faulty. A present disk that is not synchronized might have been physically removed and reinserted while the system was running to mimic hardware failure and test fail-over. The re-add action can be used to add the disk to the RAID configuration for synchronization again.
