Using the Rescue Tool

The following functions are supported through the Rescue Tool menu:
- Reset to factory default
- Reset the sysadmin user
- Reset the access settings to the Configuration Tool
- Change and view network settings
- Restart or shut down OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance
- Ping an IP address
Resetting OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance
Resetting OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance to factory default
The following configuration settings and data are reset if you select the Reset to Factory Default option:
- All data is erased, including auditing and logging information.
- The configuration is reset to the factory default settings.
- The IP address is reset to the factory default. OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance will need to be re-connected to your network (see Connecting OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance to the network), and the first-time Configuration Wizard will need to be run again.
It is not necessary to reset OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance to the factory default if you want to restore a backup. In this case, the appliance is automatically reset to the factory default before the backup is restored. For more information about restoring backups, see Restoring backups.
You can reset OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance to factory default settings with the Rescue Tool only.
To reset OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance to factory default
- Start the OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance Rescue Tool.
- Type r to access the reset options.
- Type f for system configuration reset.
Type y for yes to confirm system reset.
OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance is reset to the factory default values and restarts automatically.
Resetting the sysadmin user account
To reset the sysadmin user account, change the password for that user (see Configuration Wizard).
The user will be prompted for the new password immediately, a new logon to the OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance Configuration Tool is not required. The sysadmin user will be reset as described in Rescuing default administrative users
Resetting the access settings to the Configuration Tool
To reset the access settings to the Configuration Tool
- Start the OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance Rescue Tool.
- Type r to access the reset options.
- Type c for reset the access settings.
Type y for yes to confirm settings reset.
Any IP addresses specified with the Limit Access to Networks setting are cleared, effectively allowing access to the Configuration Tool from any client computer.
Changing the OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance IP address
You can use the Rescue Tool to change the OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance IP address. This is an alternative method to the instructions for the first-time configuration (see Connecting OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance to the network), and also an alternative to the manual configuration via the Configuration Tool (refer to the OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance Administrator Guide).
To reset the OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance IP address
- Start the OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance Rescue Tool.
- Type n to access the network menu.
- Type i to set the system IP address and subnet.
- Enter the new IP address in CIDR format. An example of CIDR format is IP/netmask , for example 192.168.5.230 with netmask 255.255.255.0 needs to be entered as 192. 168.5.230/24.
- Press any key to return to the network menu.
You can use the Rescue Tool to modify the default gateway in a similar way.
Pinging an IP address or host name
You can ping a system to test whether it can connect to OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance.
To ping an IP address
- Start the OneSpan Authentication Server Appliance Rescue Tool.
- Type n to access the network menu.
- Type p to enter the ping menu.
- Enter the IP address or the host name of the system you want to ping.
The Rescue Tool will then ping the supplied IP address or host name.
