Data Migration Tool can only be launched on a supported Linux server with the X Window System running.

In addition, ensure that your distribution uses the X11 display server. Data Migration Tool does not support the Wayland display server, which is the default environment on some Linux distributions.

To install Data Migration Tool (DMT) on Linux

  1. Open a terminal.

  2. Log in as root using the hyphen option (su -).

    This ensures that you load the root profile, not the default profile.

  3. Navigate to the mounted disk or ISO image containing the Data Migration Tool setup files and run the install script:

    ./install-dmt.sh

  4. Follow the instructions on the screen to install DMT.
