Mobile Authenticator Studio standard license activation

Prev Next

Once installed on the device, an authenticator license needs to be activated in the Mobile Authenticator Studio app. The license is activated by providing the license activation data, which consists of the license number, the configuration data, and the authenticator's secret key.

Mobile Authenticator Studio supports two licensing models:

  • standard licensing model (also single-device licensing, only available in the Mobile Authenticator Studio Starter edition.)

  • multi-device licensing model (only available in the Mobile Authenticator Studio Classic and Premium editions.)

Characteristics of a standard license activation

In the single-device licensing model, each authenticator license is associated with a unique serial number and a unique secret that is delivered in a DPX file. Each authenticator license can be installed on a single device. Mobile Authenticator Studio supports the following activation modes for the standard licenses:

  • online activation

  • offline activation

  • QR code activation

With Mobile Authenticator Studio prior to version 4.0, the provided activation code was validated through the authenticator secret key parity check, with a 56-byte static vector and a version set to 7 or lower. From version 4.0, however, the static vector version is set to 8 and the length is variable. The authenticator key is used without parity, the checksum of the activation code is validated. It is computed from the concatenation of the serial number and the activation code, for validation of the activation data entered by the user during offline activation.
