In addition to the PIN protection method, Mobile Authenticator Studio also supports the use of biometrics. With the Biometric authentication feature, the user can use fingerprint recognition or, on iOS, face recognition with Face ID, for authentication and transaction signing in Mobile Authenticator Studio. This biometric protection also covers the Mobile Authenticator Studio encryption keys, once the user has successfully authenticated. Biometric authentication can be enabled during the authenticator account activation process or anytime later via the settings menu.
To enable biometric authentication
If biometric authentication was not enabled during the account activation process, it can be enabled with the following steps:
The user taps the three dots at the top of the home screen to access the menu.
The user is asked to enter their PIN code.
The user enables biometric authentication.
The user provides their biometric data by scanning their fingerprint or, on iOS, their face with Face ID.
The device saves the biometric information pertaining to the user. The user is presented with the authenticator home screen and can now use biometry for authentication and transaction signing.
To disable biometric authentication
The user taps the three dots at the top of the home screen to access the menu.
The user taps the button to disable the selected authentication method.
The user sees an alert message asking them to confirm that they want to disable this biometric authentication method, and taps the relevant button again.
The user is presented with the authenticator home screen displaying the available options, e.g. Pending requests, Scan Code, and One-time Password.
