Before you can sign and load a Functionality Module (FM) into your HSM firmware, ensure that your Luna HSM is ready for use with FMs. For detailed information on how to prepare the Luna HSM for using FMs, refer to the manufacturer’s documentation. Ensure that the following minimum requirements are met:
Your hardware is ready for FM use
Your hardware is running with Luna HSM Firmware 7.4.0 or later
You use Luna Appliance Software 7.4.0 or later to manage your FMs
Also, you need to purchase and apply the FM Capability License, and enable the proper HSM Policy Settings :
HSM Policy 50: Allow Functionality Modules
HSM Policy 51: Allow SMFS Auto Activation
You can additionally enable policies 52 and 53 if you require Common Criteria certification, although the manufacturer does not recommend changing those policies otherwise. Please refer to the documentation for further details.
Changing any of those policies will destroy all application partitions. Furthermore, changing HSM Policy 50 will zeroize the HSM, which will need to be re-initialized.
