Authenticating into an application

Prev Next

Mobile app authentication

The App SDK allows you to directly incorporate FIDO authentication in your mobile application. All user interactions occur within the context of your mobile app.

Web app authentication

The App SDK enables your web application to use FIDO to register and authenticate. All user interactions occur within the context of your web app. Mobile browsers can register and authenticate directly with FIDO2.

A mobile phone can be used as a roaming authenticator for web apps. The mobile app running on the phone must use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) authenticator functionality. The web app requires a browser supporting WebAuthn and CTAP2 via BLE. Please check the WebAuthn support matrix to find platforms that provide support for CTAP2 via BLE. Currently Windows 10 supports this.

WebView authentication

WebViews are useful to deliver a web application or just a web page as a part of a client application. The App SDK supports FIDO authentication for mobile apps that render their user experience using embedded WebViews. See Integrating with WebView for details.
