# Importing/exporting gateway definitions

The MDC Configuration Utility allows you to import and export gateway definitions to easily apply gateway settings to the Message Delivery Component service of different OneSpan Authentication Server instances.

Importing also makes it easier to apply gateway settings for supported third-party SMS gateway provider services (see [Third-party SMS gateway provider services](/sec/docs/oas-ag-third-party-sms-gateway-provider-services-3-28)).

To import a gateway definition

1. Start the MDC Configuration Utility.
2. Select a delivery method by clicking its corresponding button from the left pane.
3. Enable that delivery method by selecting the corresponding checkbox, e.g. the Enable SMS delivery checkbox in the SMS/SMPP gateways menu.
4. Click Import.
5. Browse to the configuration file and click Open.
6. Verify the details imported from the file.
7. Configure load-balancing, failover, and/or failback by specifying the following:

For more information, see [MDC gateway load-balancing, failover, and failback](/sec/docs/oas-ag-mdc-gateway-load-balancing-failover-and-failback-3-28).
  - The order of the gateway definition in the gateway list.
  - The server type (i.e. Primary or Backup).
8. Click Apply.
9. Click OK.
