# Viewing audit messages from an ODBC database

A data source name (DSN) for the database must be configured on the computer where you run Audit Viewer.

To set up an ODBC audit source

1. Select File > New Audit Source > ODBC Database.

The New Audit Source – ODBC Database dialog appears (see [New Audit Source – ODBC Database (dialog)](/sec/docs/oas-av-csh-new-audit-source-odbc-database-dialog-3-28)).
2. Enter a descriptive display name for the audit source within Audit Viewer.
3. Select the data source name for the respective database.
4. Type the user ID and password of a database administrator account.
5. (OPTIONAL) Select the Store User ID and Password checkbox to permanently save the audit source details. The ODBC audit source will be available each time you start Audit Viewer. If you mistype the credentials, Audit Viewer will not prompt you for other credentials. In that case, you need to change them in the ODBC Database dialog.
6. Click OK.
