# Configuration Utility

OneSpan Authentication Server uses a local XML text file to store various configuration settings. This configuration file can be administered using a graphical application referred to as **OneSpan Authentication Server Configuration Utility**.

Some settings within the OneSpan Authentication Server configuration file can also be changed via the **Administration Web Interface**.

To run **Configuration Utility** on Windows, navigate to:

> Start > Programs > VASCO > IAS Configuration Utility

To run **Configuration Utility** on Linux, open a terminal window and run ikconfigutilgui.

You need root privileges to run the **Configuration Utility** application. Running the application without root privileges will fail with a "Permission denied" message.

Whenever you use the **Configuration Utility** application to change any settings, OneSpan Authentication Server needs to be restarted before the new settings take effect. The application will perform the restart when you exit.

The **Configuration Utility** controls the following setting groups:

- **General.** Server location, RADIUS dictionary file path, and tracing settings.
- **Communicators.** SOAP, RADIUS, and SEAL communication protocol settings, including SSL.
- **Scenarios.** Available scenarios depending on your license options.
- **Engines.** Defines your back-end authentication plug-in engines.
- **Storage.** Add and configure additional ODBC databases.
- **Auditing.** Configure audit methods.
- **Replication.** Specify replication settings.
- **Server Discovery.** Optional DNS service registration.
- **Performance.** Configure performance monitoring filters and plug-ins.
