Add a New Authenticator

To add one new authenticator, you need to get that authenticator’s metadata file and then upload the contents of the metadata file into the Auth Server’s database. The metadata file is available either from the authenticator’s vendor or the FIDO Alliance Metadata Service (MDS).

Use the instructions below to import the metadata file. The metadata file must be on your local machine. Once the metadata is loaded in the database it is available to all the runtime servers in the cluster.

  1. Log in to the Admin Console. Navigate to Configuration > Authenticator Metadata.

  2. In the Protocol Family dropdown, select FIDO UAF, FIDO U2F, or FIDO2/WebAuthn, as appropriate for the authenticator, then click Import.

  3. The Import Authenticator Metadata dialog appears. Click Choose File and navigate to the metadata file. Click Import.

  4. The authenticator associated with the metadata file appears in the list of available authenticators.
