Overview

To fully understand the information presented here, we strongly urge you to first read Start Out-of-band integration and Out-of-band Authentication in the Android Developer Guide.

Passport App for Android allows you to use out-of-band (OOB) authentication without incurring the overhead of implementing OOB support in your own mobile app. OOB authentication enables you to use a second device tied to the user, typically their cell phone, to authenticate. Your web app initiates authentication by either:

  • Sending a push notification to your customized Passport App installed on the user's cell phone. When the user receives the notification, they authenticate with your customized Passport App using a registered FIDO authenticator, like fingerprint.

  • Displaying a QR code on the device running your web app. The user scans the QR code with your customized Passport App, then authenticates with a registered FIDO authenticator.

Passport App can also be used to enable credential sharing between one or more of your apps. To try this out using Tutorial App, see the Using Passport App for Credential Sharing in the Android Developer Guide.

Supported Platforms

Supports devices running Android 5.0+ and later.

Prerequisites

You must have the following software and tools installed and configured. The versions listed below are the minimum needed.

To support push notifications in Passport, configure your app for either Firebase Cloud Messaging or Huawei Mobile Services' Push Kit. See sections Adding Firebase Configuration and Adding Huawei Mobile Services Configuration in the Android Developer Guide.

Version Information

The covers version 9.5.0 of the Digipass Passport for Android. Please confirm that you are using the corresponding version for best results. You can find version information in version.txt.
