Hot Fix 1

June 3, 2026

App SDK for Android version 9.4.0.160

New Feature in this Version

The App SDK can silently create a passkey under the following conditions:

  • The user has no passkey yet.

  • The device supports the WebAuthn feature "conditional-create".

  • The user logged into an application using a password manager.

If the App SDK successfully creates a passkey silently, and your Server's adaptive ruleset requires no more methods for registration, then the App SDK will not show any UI. If your Server's adaptive ruleset does require the user to register more methods, then that user interface starts automatically.

If you have a 9.4+ Server, you can enable this feature in a FIDO policy without writing additional code. In the Server Admin Console, navigate to Authentication > FIDO Policies. On the Policy Details page, open the Additional Features panel. Click Allow next to Automatically Create Passkey.

You can also enable this feature directly in your app by setting the userMediation flag to true in your RPData instance.

Supported Devices

  • FIDO2 is supported on devices running Android 7 and later. Passkeys are natively supported on Android 9 and later.

  • Fingerprint Support - devices running Android 6.0 and later equipped with a fingerprint sensor and Android Fingerprint API support, including the Google Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P.

  • PIN Support - any Android device running a supported operating system.

  • 3rd Party FIDO UAF ASMs developed with the Nok Nok Authenticator SDK.

  • The Nok Nok App SDK for Android supports devices running Android 5.0 and later.

  • The App SDK for Wear OS supports devices and emulators running Wear 2.0 (Android Wear 7.1.1 API 25 and higher)

Prerequisites

You must have the following software and tools installed and configured:

  • Android Studio

  • The minimum Android SDK version to support this feature is 23.

  • Device with recent versions of either Google Play Services or Huawei Mobile Services installed.

  • Java compiler 11

Android App SDK: 9.4.0.133

New in this version

  • The App SDK includes non-blocking APIs to support modern threading. These improve your application's responsiveness and enable a smoother experience for your end users.

  • The logs generated by Nok Nok's App IQ error reporting service contain the username field in the data record.

  • The App SDK is updated to support Public Key Credential Hints set by a FIDO policy on the Server. These settings control the presentation of the user interface for specific authenticators (security key, passkey on this device, and passkey on a different device), enabling more granular UI selection than was possible with Authenticator Attachment.

Issues fixed in this version

  • App crashes when executing SelectAuthenticatorActivity.onCreate().

Previous Behavior: App crashes when executing SelectAuthenticatorActivity.onCreate().

New Behavior: App does not crash when executing SelectAuthenticatorActivity.onCreate().

  • In the App SDK 9.2.0, predictive back gesture animation failed on FIDO authentication.

New Behavior: In the App SDK 9.4.0, predictive back gesture animation works on all screens.
