Results for Android 15 and iOS 18 compatibility testing

This article describes the OneSpan preparations for supporting the upcoming production releases of Android 15 and iOS 18, expected in late 2024.

Listed below are the most recently-tested OneSpan mobile product versions against public beta versions of Android 15 and iOS 18. For additional details and testing reports please reach out to support@onespan.com.

[1] App Shielding 6.6.1 works on iOS 18 with a limitation: if your application is built with Xcode 16 and shielded with App Shielding 6.6.1 or earlier, the application will terminate unexpectedly on devices running on iOS 18. This will be fixed with App Shielding for iOS 7.0.1 which will be released in a few days. The solution to this issue is to then either upgrade to App Shielding 7.0.1, or build your application with Xcode 15.x.

OneSpan testing approach

To minimize potential interruptions in the availability of OneSpan customers’ mobile apps caused by Android and iOS updates, OneSpan closely monitors information and planned timelines related to new Android and iOS releases and ensures the compatibility of OneSpan mobile solutions accordingly. In such a way, we allow customers to focus on their apps’ core functionality and leave the compatibility of OneSpan mobile solutions-related functionality to us.

OneSpan’s objective is to deliver stable software as quickly as possible consequent to Google or Apple publishing a final Android or iOS release candidate and before those Android and iOS releases are made available to the public. As the anticipated public release date approaches, OneSpan tests its mobile solutions’ compatibility with Android and iOS beta versions to identify and resolve issues before the public release of the final versions. OneSpan does not guarantee full support or compatibility testing for all preview or beta versions.

Compatibility test reports are available to OneSpan customers upon request. However, the OneSpan standard practice is to support production operating systems that are supported by the manufacturer and not to release iterative versions of our mobile solutions that support each beta version. If during testing we identify the need to release a beta-compatible version of one of our mobile solutions, we will do so – but in general, we expect this to be a rare occurrence.

OneSpan cannot anticipate changes from one beta version to the next and publishing releases for each iteration is counterproductive to providing customers with a compatible release as quickly as possible after a release candidate is published by Apple or Google. If a customer should identify a beta-release-related issue with one of our mobile solutions, we do appreciate them notifying us to ensure we are aware of it. Because both Android 13 and iOS 16 are still in development, OneSpan does not guarantee full support or compatibility testing for all preview or beta versions, but in some cases will make compatibility testing reports available upon request.
